Murder Suspect Returned To Maine ALFRED, Maine (AP) — A murder suspect and his girlfriend who were arrested last month in South Dakota in the fatal beating of a Canadian tourist were returned to Maine on Thursday.

Troopers and detectives from the Maine State Police transported Benjamin Humphrey, 29, and his girlfriend, Aimee Pelletier, 23, to the York County Jail in Alfred.

Humphrey, who grew up in Presque Isle, is charged with murdering Derek Rogers, 47, of Russell, Ontario, a band member in the Canadian Armed Forces. Rogers was the victim of a random attack during an early morning walk on Old Orchard Beach on July 31, police said.

Humphrey and Pelletier were arrested last month at a shopping mall in Rapid City, S.D., following a five-day, nationwide search.
