USD volleyball beats Minnesota-Moorehead The University of South Dakota women's volleyball team (8-4) recorded its fourth straight win with a 3-1 (34-32, 30-27, 28-30, 30-18) win over Minnesota State-Moorhead (4-8) at the North Central Conference-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Crossover Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 14, in Omaha, NE.
South Dakota has won seven of their last eight matches. On Friday, the Coyotes defeated Minnesota-Crookston (30-20, 30-15, 30-27) and Bemidji State (28-30, 30-27, 30-26, 30-22) at the tournament.
Once again, senior outside hitter Amber Abrams, Rapid City, had an outstanding performance with 24 kills on 49 attacks for a .347 hitting percentage vs. Minnesota State-Moorhead. Abrams also had a service ace, 11 digs, three solo blocks and a block assist in one of her best performances this season.
Freshman Kristen Miller, Papillion, NE, continued to shine for the Coyotes as she had a phenomenal game. Miller, who recorded seven digs, had 20 kills in 29 attempts for a .586 hitting percentage. Sophomore Lindsey Soukup, Omaha, NE, had 14 kills, two service aces, 25 digs and three block assists. Junior Becky Olson, Norfolk, NE, also had double figures in kills with 10 to go with nine digs, a solo block and block assist while senior setter Lyndsey Finney, Kearney, NE, had four kills, 63 set assts and 18 defensive digs in a solid effort.
In addition, Lacey Ross, a sophomore, Omaha, NE, had a game-high 26 digs. As a team, USD had 80 kills on 194 attacks and a .258 hitting percentage. The Coyotes had eight service aces, 114 digs and 10 team blocks.
For Minnesota State-Moorhead, Audra Auch had 11 kills and Susan Kolbow had 21 digs. As a team Minnesota State-Moorhead finished with 44 kills on 163 attacks for a .110 hitting percentage. They had 63 digs and 6.5 team blocks.
South Dakota will host North Dakota at 4:30 p.m. at the DakotaDome.
