Freshman football team continues losing streak by Jim Prosser The Tanager freshman football team had their losing streak raised to three Sept. 26 with a defeat by Canton.
The C-Hawk freshmen pretty much dominated the game on defense, outgaining the Tanagers 286 to 190 total yards but only 9 to 12 first downs.
Canton scored on a 39-yard pass play and four rushing plays of 60, 52, 54 and 2 yards while the Vermillion squad scored on two short yardage plunges by Karlis Baisden, and a team safety. Kyle Hubert ran in a 2-point conversion. Kyle Brunick went 7 of 11 passing for 67 yards and Hubert led the rushers with 68 yards on 19 carries.
The Tanagers played a tough but sporadic defensive effort but couldn't contain the outside long runs.
Leading the defense was Cody Hayes with eight tackles; Mike Hanson recorded six stops, a pass breakup, and a fumble recovery. Kyle Hubert had three T's and a fumble recovery.
