JV football team falls to Sioux City Heelan by Jim Prosser In a crisply played football game, the Tanager JV team fell behind 28-6 in the first half as Heelan's David Callahan scored three TDs courtesy of 62, 11, and 11-yard runs, while the Tanagers used a 65-yard pass to J.J. LaMie from Adam Brunick for 6 points.
Vermillion added an 8-point score on a 40-yard pass from Brunick to Ben Oberle and a 2-point conversion pass � Brunick to LaMie. But that was the end of the scoring in the game as Heelan was held scoreless the rest of the way in a hard-fought 28-14 loss.
Individual offensive stats: Oberle, 107 yards/15 carries and a pass recption of 40 yards; LaMie caught three passes totaling 100 yards and Tyler Brown gained 18 yards on a pass from Brunick totaling 27 yards; and Cody Hays rushed six times for 36 total yards.
A stiff defense was worn down by the end of the game, but there were some sterling efforts by: Obele (nine Ts and a QB sack); Mike Hanson (eight tackles), Brown (seven Ts and a pass breakup); Jordan Anderson and Paul Hugo (six Ts each); Chris Teigen, Hays, and Donny Stewart each registered five tackles; and Kyle Mollet intercepted a pass to go with his four tackles before suffering an injury taking him out of the game.
