Last second TD foils Tanager JV hopes by Jim Prosser The game played against the Orioles JV on Monday, Sept. 30 became a normal Tanager defensive match with a Lennox JV with their usual defense which made the outcome in doubt right up to the final 8 seconds.
The Orioles scored on a short run following a pass play and penalty which gave them favorable field position early in the second period. The Tanagers responded with a third quarter TD making the score 7-6 for Lennox after three quarters.
The Tanager defense held the home team to nine plays in quarter #4 while Vermillion rushed 18 times on the way to 6 points and the lead with only one minute left in the game. Unfortunately, the nine plays for Lennox were run during that minute, ultimately scoring on an 18-yard halfback pass with just seconds left.
Scoring for the Tanagers were: Kyle Mollet on a one-yard run; and Ben Oberle's 22-yard end run. Oberle had 22 rushes for 110 yards to lead the run offense; and Adam Brunick went three of nine for 43 yards and an interception in the passing game.
Individual defensive stats: Paul Hugo � nine tackles and a QB sack; Kyle Mollet and Jordan Anderson � seven tackles each; a couple defensemen each had six tackles � Oberle and Chris Teigan who had a pass intercept and pass knockdown; registering five Ts were Mike Hanson and Jason Donald who also sacked the QB.
Final score: Lennox � 13; Vermillion � 12
