Red Cross holds informational meeting The Sioux Empire American Red Cross is headquartered in Sioux Falls with Disaster Action Teams expanding into the six county jurisdiction, including Clay County.
The American Red Cross will be holding an informational meeting for persons interested in volunteering with the Clay County Disaster Action Team. The Disaster Action Team provides immediate, disaster-caused assistance to people impacted by a disaster. The informational meeting is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Fire Headquarters in Vermillion.
Each year, the American Red Cross responds immediately to more than 67,000 disasters, including house or apartment fires (the majority of disaster responses), hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, hazardous materials spills, transportation accidents, explosions, and other natural and man-made disasters.
Red Cross disaster relief focuses on meeting people's immediate, disaster-caused needs. When a disaster threatens or strikes, the Red Cross provides shelter, food, and health and mental health services to address basic human needs. In addition to these services, the core of Red Cross disaster relief is the assistance given to individuals and families affected by disaster to enable them to resume their normal daily activities independently.
All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free. Disaster assistance is a gift from donations of the American people.
