Seventh-grade Redbirds lose overtime heartbreaker by Jim Prosser The VMS seventh-grade football team came up short in another overtime game played at Elk Point last Thursday, Oct. 10.
It was a classic defensive struggle as neither team crossed the goal line in the four quarters of the contest. The Redbirds succumbed in the second overtime game played this year when the young Pointers scored a TD in the extended period to capture the 6-0 win.
The Vermillion team offense was led by quarterback Daniel Storm who gained 77 yards on 13 carries and 11 yards on 1 for 8 passing. Casey Carlson had 26 yards on seven carries.
The defense was led by Storm with nine tackles; Carlson registered five Ts and Cody Miller had four Ts.
Three players recorded three tackles each � Luke Heine, Matt Nelson, and Brook Hansen. Michael Wilson was credited with two Ts and a pass interception and C.J. Haakinson had a quarterback sack with two tackles.
After losses at O'Gorman and Canton, the team's record is now 1 and 4, with home games scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 17 versus Brandon Valley and Tuesday, Oct. 22 versus Yankton.
