Volleyball team claims home win over Alcester/Hudson by Jim Prosser The Vermillion volleyball team outlasted Alcester/Hudson last Monday night, Oct. 7, when they won a five-game varsity match 25-23, 25-17, 25-13, 25-23, 15-11.
The freshman team swept by the Alcester/Hudson Cubs in a two-game set 25-15, 25-20 and the JV team went three games losing 2-1 with scores of 25-20, 21-25, and 10-15.
Individual stats were not available for the C and B matches but the leading scorers for the varsity team were: Ashley Bjorkman � 16 kills, two blocks, 21 digs; Colette Joy recorded nine kills; Ellen Odson led the offense with 36 set assists; and the defensive leaders were Annie Carlson � 26 digs, and Whitney Tolsma � 23 digs.
The Alcester/Hudson leaders were: Megan Kleinhaus � nine set assists, one block, 12 digs; Ashley Parson � 12 assists, six kills; Holly Reppe and Kristen Vreudenkl also each had six spikes; Katrina Winquist had a block; and Angie Fickbohm claimed 33 digs.
The Tanager varsity record stands at 6-8 and faced Madison Tuesday, Oct. 8.
