Algaard-Lien's 'Accordion Series' at Gayville The Gayville Gallery presents an exhibit of new paintings by former Vermillion artist Agnes "Bobbie" Alsgaard-Lien of Rushmore, MN, on Nov. 9 through the end of the year.
Alsgaard-Lien, who was born and raised in Sioux Falls, teaches art and is gallery director at the Minnesota West Community College in Worthington, MN.
She earned degrees in art and education from The University of South Dakota and has exhibited widely in the Midwest.
The paintings are from Alsgaard-Lien's "Accordion Series," inspired by the instrument she played from ages 7 to 13. The highlight of her musical career, according to Alsgaard-Lien, was playing at the Orpheum Theater in Sioux Falls at age 8.
"I could never play it well, but I sure can paint it," she said.
She started working on the series in her mind about two years ago after friends in Vermillion gave her an accordion for her 50th birthday. She started painting the canvasses last year.
Gayville Gallery is located at 504 Washington Street, adjacent to the Gayville Hall. It will be open from 5:30 to 8 p.m. prior concerts at Gayville Hall on Nov. 9 and 30, Dec. 7, and other dates to be announced. A reception for the artist at Gayville Hall will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 9.
