Bernard, Hesla named VHS students of month Carly Bernard and Jerad Hesla were named as the Vermillion High School September Students of the Month.
Their scholastic and extra-curricular efforts will be rewarded with a $100 scholarship from First National Bank.
Bernard "is an asset to the classroom and school as a whole" according to her faculty endorsement. She maintains a 3.7 G.P.A. in addition to many activities that include soccer, dance team, track, cheerleading and National Honor Society.
She has been a Renaissance Board Member, Student Council Treasurer, and editor of the yearbook. Her parents are Terry Bernard and Janet Merrigan. Her career plans lie in education.
Hesla presently intends to study computer science and engineering at Iowa State University. He has participated in show choir, basketball, band, chorus and track while maintaining a 3.8 G.P.A.
He served as a teacher assistant at the Technology Teaching & Learning Academy, attended the Aeronautical Career & Education Camp, and attended the National Summit of Young Technology Leaders. His parents are Ron and Deb Hesla.
