Check It Out by Anne Marshall Showcased Book of the Week
Peter Larson and his team at the Black Hills Institute discovered the world's largest and most complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton beneath a South Dakota butte in 1990. Little did they foresee the huge problems awaiting them. FBI agents, government prosecutors, powerful museums, Native American tribes, and other paleontologist all wanted not just a piece of the action, but all of Sue, the name given to Larson's spectacular find.
Called the Indiana Jones of paleontology, Peter Larson picked up his first fossil at age four and never stopped. Founder of the world's largest independent fossil company, Black Hills Institute of Geological Research, Larson's discoveries can be viewed at virtually every major natural history museum in the world. Just processed and ready to be checked out is Rex Appeal: The Amazing Story of Sue, the Dinosaur That Changed Science, the Law and My Life, by Peter Larson and Kristin Donnan.
