Cross country teams place in state meet at Huron By By Jim Prosser The Tanager boys� cross country team scored 172 points to place ninth in class 11A at the SDHSAA meet at Huron on Saturday, Oct. 26.
The top Vermillion runner with a clocking of 17:19.04 was Justin Manning who led the VHS boys� contingent with an individual 14th place among the 16-team, 128-entrant 5,000M division.
Katarina Gombocz ran a 16:58.68 clocking to finish in seventh place and lead the Tanager girls� contingent to fifth in their 15-team, 124 participant 4,000M division.
Other Tanager representatives in the boys� division were: 30th � Craig Powell (17:51.86); 62nd � Dan Pearson; 66th � Wilber Lio; 73rd � A.J. Manning; and 74th � Mitch Bierle.
Vermillion�s other girl finishers, in their division were: 18th � Nicki Mollet; 58th � Kayla Nelson; 75th � Katie Dehner; 82nd � Morgan Brooks; and 106th � Sarah Plate.
Coach Dan Bergland was very pleased that Bierle, Gombocz, and Mollet were able to attain All State honors but there was a little disappointment in the fact that some of his charges had higher times than they are capable of running.
