Eighth-grade volleyball team off to a great start in 2002 The eighth-grade girls� volleyball team is having a great season.

They traveled to Elk Point for a tournament on Sept. 14 and finished second. They defeated Beresford in the first match 25-16, 25-18. In the second match they played a tough Elk Point team, winning 25-23, 20-25, 15-8.

In the championship match they met a very tall Sioux Falls Christian team. They got beat in the finals 25-20, 25-23.

Vermillion traveled to Lennox on Tuesday, Sept. 17 and won all three matches. The C team won 25-12, 25-17. The B team won 25-11, 25-18. The A team won 25-18, 25-11.

On Saturday, Sept. 21, the girls went to the Beresford Invitational Tournament and finished second again. They beat Beresford the first match, 25-21, 20-25, 15-10. They played Centerville in the championship and lost 25-21, 25-20.

On Thursday, Sept. 26, Vermillion hosted Yankton. The A team won 25-12, 25-23. The B team won 25-14, 25-14. The C team won 25-22, 25-13. The D team lost 25-14, 27-25, 15-13. The eighth-graders were at Canton for a tournament on Oct. 5.
