Producers need to
request splitting up multi-ownership farms now
Producers should contact their local Farm Service Agency Office to request reconstitutions of their farms for the 2002 crop year, said Executive Director Steven K. Cutler. Reconstitutions are needed to change farm ownership, to change operators, and to separate multi-ownership farms.
Cutler said, "With the new farm bill, owners that have combined their land with land owned by others must all agree on the method used to establish bases and yields for the entire farm. If all owners don't reach an agreement, the bases and yields will be defaulted to the current PFC bases and yields, plus eligible oilseed acreages."
It may be beneficial to split multi-ownership farms, so that each owner can evaluate the new farm program based on their own land's bases and yields.
Owners and operators should contact their local FSA Office to visit about the structured of their farms for the new farm program.
