K of C helps school's special education department by Ashley Steffen With Wakonda's elementary wing opening recently, many teachers were rushing to move in and utilize their new space. Even though they now have a new room, money for supplies may not have been in the budget.
Wakonda's Knights of Columbus was generous enough to give a monetary donation to the elementary special education department for center supplies.
Mrs. Stephanie Light, special education director, purchased dry eraser markers, a pocket chart, vowel team cards, and a word wall all for her word wall center.
For her ABC Center she bought magnetic letters, felt letters, ABC flashcards, and an ABC puzzle.
She also supplied her writing center with stationery, pens/pencils, mini stampers, and changeable markers.
Puppets, clip boards, paint and fabric for the puppet theater were added to create a drama center.
Light is attending classes for the new AREA reading instruction at Wakonda School. Center activities are an integral part of AREA Reading and Light is very thankful for Knight of Columbus help.
This is just one way community groups help their schools. Thank you Knights of Columbus.
