Obituaries Leroy Moe
Leroy W. Moe, 77, of Vermillion, died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002 at his residence after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Moe was born March 2, 1925 on a farm near Carthage, to Jacob and Marie (Wesselsen) Moe. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served from 1943-1946 in the South Pacific.
He worked construction in Sioux Falls, first with his late brother Lester, and then
forming his own plastering business. He moved to the Vermillion area in 1974, and finally to the Town Square apartments where he and his wife Ila (Cleland) have been managers since 1998.
He is survived by his wife Ila of 33 years, three sons, Troy Moe of Vermillion, Shawn Moe and his wife Lanette of Homer, NE, and Delvin Amundson of Vermillion. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Lucretia, Kim, Ashley, Alyssa, and Kay Lee; three sons by a former marriage, Jeff, Gary and Randy Moe; and five grandchildren. A brother, Norman, of Olympia, WA, and four sisters, Margaret Passer of Pinellas Park, FL, Mabelle Fulton of Carthage, Genevieve Doland of Huron, and Gladys (Gene) Tracy of Ventura, CA, also survive him.
His parents, seven brothers, and three sisters preceded him in death.
He was a member of the Vermillion VFW, and the Southeast South Dakota Pheasant Association.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, at the Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion. Burial of ashes followed in the BluffView Cemetery in Vermillion.
Gloria Rosalie Frank, 76, of Volin, died Nov. 16, 2002 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.
Survivors include one son, Dan Frank, of Volin; a brother, Emil Bender, Hemet, CA; and a sister, Lillian Bender, Volin.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Vermillion. Burial followed in the Volin Cemetery, rural Volin.
Golden Lee Kephart, of Sacramento, CA, died June 9, 2002.
He was born in Vermillion July 8, 1959.
Mr. Kephart was employed for 13 years as a heavy equipment operator with the California State Fair.
Survivors include siblings Eileen, Dale and John Kephart; a nephew, Timothy Kephart, and a niece, Allison Kephart.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Louise Kephart.
Lee Burdette Kephart
Lee Burdette Kephart, of Sacramento, CA, died Sept. 15, 2002.
He was born in Vermillion May 26, 1933.
Mr. Kephart was a salesman for many years with the Bell Brand and C.E. Rhodes food distribution companies. Survivors include his sons, Dale and John Kephart; and a daughter, Eileen Kephart; four brothers, William, Cecil, Kermit and Harold Kephart; and two grandchildren, Timothy and Allison Kephart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Kermit Kephart Sr., a son, Golden Kephart, and his wife of 24 years, Norma Louise Kephart.
Sydney Tichy, 24 days, died Nov. 14, 2002, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.
She was born Oct. 22, 2002 at Sioux Falls, to Jamie Hanson and Troy Tichy.
Survivors include her parents Jamie Hanson and Troy Tichy; one sister, Ellie Tichy, grandparents, Scott and Jane Hanson of Vermillion, and James and Gertie Tichy of Meckling; and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at the Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion.
Visitation began one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Marlene (Christenson) Wilhem, 65, Marion, IA, formerly of Vermillion, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002 at Marion.
Services were 10:30 a.m. Friday at Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church, rural Vermillion, with the Rev. Elizabeth Johnson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Visitation began one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
The Iverson-Siecke Funeral Home, Vermillion, was in charge of arrangements.
She was born April 7, 1937, at Clay County to Harold and Blanche (Lineback) Christenson. She attended Meckling schools and graduated from Vermillion High School in 1955. She married William Kvidahl Nov. 10, 1955. She married Clay Wilhem in 1984, at Cedar Rapids, IA. He died in 1991. She lived in Cedar Rapids for 35 years.
She is survived by her children, William Kvidahl, Reinart Kvidahl, James Kvidahl, Leif Kvidahl and Mary Kvidahl, all of Cedar Rapids; her mother, Blanche Christenson; one sister, Marjorie Johnson, Vermillion; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, her father and an infant brother.
Alaina Rae Weidemann
Alaina Rae Weidemann, Vermillion, three-day-old infant daughter of Tracy Cook and Derek Weidemann died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at the Children's Hospital in Omaha, NE.
Arrangements are pending with the Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion.
