Obituaries Margery Kniffen
Margery C. Kniffen, 64, of Aztec, NM, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002 at the San Juan Regional Hospital at Farmington, NM of lung cancer.
There will be a private burial service with the Rev. Donald Imming officiating.
She was born Aug. 25, 1938 at Tyndall to Clarence and Mary (Honner) Kniffen. She attended rural Bruyer School in Clay County and graduated from Vermillion High School in 1956. She enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1956 and served five years. She lived in California after her service years and in 1970 moved to Aztec, NM.
She retired December, 2001 from Wasteland Management as supervisor.
She is survived by her mother, Mary Kniffen of Vermillion; three brothers, Dennis Kniffen, Vermillion, Don and Donna Kniffen, Le Mars, IA, and Gene Kniffen, Sturgis; two nieces and three nephews; and long time friend, Pat Melton.
Lucille Mockler, 94, Vermillion, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002 at the Sioux Valley Vermillion Care Center.
She was born March 28, 1908 at Beresford to Henry and Catherine (Menning) Muhlenkort. She attended Sunnyside School south of Beresford and Beresford High School. She lived and worked six years in Kenosha, WI.
She married Louis Mockler on Sept. 26, 1930 in St. Marks Catholic Church at Kenosha, WI.
Survivors include one son, Lonnie (Sandy) of Vermillion; two daughters, Lorraine (Duane) Brunick, Vermillion, and Carol (Joe) Donnelly, Elk Point; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Her parents, husband, and one son, Kenneth, preceded her in death.
Funeral Mass was Saturday, Nov. 16, at St. Agnes Catholic Church at Vermillion. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery at Vermillion.
Scripture services were Friday at St. Agnes Catholic Church.
Phyllis Larson Dion
Phyllis Adrienne (Iverson) Larson Dion, after several months of health problems, died Nov. 14, 2002.
Born Aug. 3, 1920 in Wakonda, to George Lewis Iverson and Dora Cecelia Lund, she graduated from University High in Vermillion, and attended The University of South Dakota.
She married Earl Lewis Larson of Gayville in January of 1941. From this union her 10 children were born.
She will always be remembered for her musical talents, including saxophone, trumpet, piano, organ, and later, even tackling an accordion. In her latter years quilting became her artistic outlet. She spent many happy hours with youngest daughters Suzanne and Annette designing patterns.
She had that great Iverson sense of humor and a zest for life. She was a loving, caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She taught her family the values of hard work, sacrifice, and enduring to the end.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, at 11a.m. in the Faith Lutheran Chapel, Tucson, AZ.
Donations may be made in her memory to vascular research.
She will be greatly missed by all of her family and those who participated in her daily care. She is survived by her children Dayton, Sharon (Lowther), Sheldon, Sandra (Lewis), Joel, John, Brent, Suzanne (Bartlett), and Annette (Sydnor), 31 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, four great-great- grandchildren and younger brothers Gary and Gene Iverson of Vermillion.
Her parents precede her in death, along with her son Richard, and her siblings Leslie, Glen, Donald, Marlowe, Avis, and Dorothy.
Dr. Floyd Sebring
Dr. Floyd U. Sebring, 90, Vermillion, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002 at his son's residence in Sioux City, IA.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov. 19 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Vermillion, with the Rev. Judith Johnson officiating. Burial was in BluffView Cemetery, Vermillion.
Visitation was Monday, Nov. 18 at the Iverson-Siecke Funeral Home, Vermillion, followed by a prayer service at the funeral home.
He was born Oct. 19, 1912, at Miller. He graduated from pharmacy college in 1931 at South Dakota State University, Brookings. He went to medical school at The University of South Dakota and completed medical school in 1947 at Memphis, TN. He was a family practice physician from 1947 until his retirement. He lived in Martin from 1948-62 and in Vermillion from 1962-2002.
He served in the U.S. Army. He married Eleanor M. Page in 1941. She died in 1971. He married Ethel Halverson in 1973. She died in 1996. He married Eleanor Severson in 1997. She died in 2002.
He was a member of the Vermillion IOOF Lodge, Masonic Lodge, the Shrine, Eagles and American Legion. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Vermillion. He enjoyed family, friends, gardening, dancing, boating, cooking and eating.
He is survived by his son, Ed (Jane) Sebring, and daughter, Gloria (Bill) Stewart, both of Sioux City, IA; daughter Sharon (Bob) Block of Tulsa, OK; half-brother Nate Odle, Belle Fourche; four grandchildren, Erika and Andrea Block, Tulsa, OK, Cyrus Stewart, Des Moines, IA, and Dex Stewart, Sioux City, IA; and step-children Caroline (Wayne) Wandersee, Juanita (Bob) Sawyer, and Roger (Donna) Severson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three wives, three brothers, Jim, George and Merle Odle, and step-sons Walter "Hal" Halverson and Gary Severson.
