Obituaries Margaret J. Crippen

Margaret J. Crippen, 60 of Sioux Falls, died Friday, Sept. 27 at her residence.

Margaret Ashbaugh was born June 8, 1942 at Brookings. She lived with her family in Webster until 1947. She moved to Vermillion in 1947 and lived there until moving to Sioux Falls in 1964.

Mrs. Crippen received her bachelor's degree from The University of South Dakota in 1964 and her master's degree in 1968.

She was united in marriage with Dr. Gary C. Crippen on June 7, 1969 in Sioux Falls. Mrs. Crippen was a French and Spanish teacher at Washington High School for 37 years, retiring in 2001.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Gary, of Sioux Falls; her mother, Marjorie Ashbaugh; her brother, Dr. James H. Ashbaugh; a sister-in-law, Jane Ashbaugh; a niece, Shannon Ashbaugh and a nephew, M. Benjamin Ashbaugh, all living in Sioux Falls; a niece, Shelley Peterson of Rapid City; and her brother-in-law, Dr. Jack Crippen, living in Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Ashbaugh.

Memorial services were held 10 am Tuesday, Oct. 1 at Miller Funeral Home, Sioux Falls.

Memorials may be directed to the Sioux Falls Humane Society.

M. Dorothy Mc Munigal

Dorothy Mc Munigal, 87, of Sioux City, IA, former Wakonda resident, died on Nov. 2, 2002 at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City, IA.

The funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday Nov. 6, 2002 at the Cathedral of the Epiphany Catholic Church, with co-celebrants being Fr. Paul-Louis Arts, pastor, and Fr. Gerald A. Hartz, chaplain at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Wakonda.

A rosary was recited at 4 p.m. Tuesday by the Catholic Daughters of America, and a parish vigil service was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The family was present at the Larkin Northside Funeral Home in Sioux City from 3:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, and from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation at the funeral home was from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Mrs. Mc Munigal was born on Feb. 13, 1915 in Sioux City. She married Paul J. Mc Munigal on Oct. 2, 1954 at the Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City. The couple resided on a farm in Wakonda for over 40 years. The couple returned to Sioux City three-and-half years ago.

A 1933 graduate of the Cathedral high school in Sioux City, and a 1935 Briar Cliff college graduate, Mrs. Mc Munigal worked at the U.S. air base, the agriculture department, and the U.S. attorney's office in Sioux City prior to moving to Wakonda. She was employed by the Wakonda unified school district as secretary to the superintendent until she retired in 1992.

Mrs. Mc Munigal was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Wakonda for over 40 years. She was a lifetime member of the Ave Maria Court #269 Catholic Daughters of America, and an active member of the Women's Legion Auxiliary in Wakonda. She was also a former member of the church altar society.

Mrs. Mc Munigal is survived by her husband, Paul of Sioux City; one daughter and son-in- law, Julie and Dean Braun, of Laguna Hills, CA; two sisters, Connie Riley, and Catherine Scrable, both of Sioux City; one brother, JR "Dick" Sullivan, of Sioux City; 42 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Zeta (Duggan) Sullivan, and a brother, Joseph Sullivan.

A memorial in Dorothy's name may be directed to the hospice of Siouxland, Holy Spirit Retirement Home, or the American Stroke Association.
