Parents Night is success for VHS volleyball team By Jim Prosser The Vermillion "old gym" was rocking, last Thursday night, when the Tanager volleyball team closed their 2002 home regular season with an exciting introduction of players and parents to the local fans.

The varsity enjoyed a "Parents Night" victory over the Panthers from Dakota Valley!

The scores of 15-25, 26-24, 25-21, 18-25, 15-7 closed out the evening proceedings which included the JV team's 25-15, 22-25, 8-15; and C-team's 25-17, 17-25, 5-15 losses.

The coach for the C team is assistant Rachel Stokes who assessed her team's performance.

"Even though we lost, the girls put in a great effort and did their best. Michelle Olson was an outstanding all around player with four aces and 18 digs."

Other players cited were: Heather Walker � two aces, three Ks, one B, and six Ds; Paige Prosser � three Ks, six Ds; Brittany Campbell � five assists; Amy Mollett � two Ks; and Whitney Hollingsworth � two assists.

The JV is coached by assistant Mandi Muller who wanted to recognize the following players: Heather Walker � eight service points, three aces; Melissa Olson � one ace, three kills, five digs; Jena Mulder � one ace, eight digs, Jackie Thomas � six SP, one ace, one kill, five assists.

Head coach Lennie Billberg has accumulated a 9-10 record.

"In the Dakota Valley match the Tanagers had a tough fought victory," she said. "We found a way to win through hard work, sweat and endless pursuit."

Stars included Ashley Bjorkman and Dru VanKley, each with nine kills and 20 digs. Other notables: Whitney Tolsma � three blocks, five kills, two aces, 15 digs; Ellen Odson � 19 assists, one B, one ace, five Ds; Jackie Thomas � one B, nine assists, three Ks, four Ds; Colette Joy � three PE, two Bs, two Ks, one ace, five Ds; Annie Carlson � two Bs, one assist, four Ks, two aces, six Ds.

HEAD:International forum is Nov. 4

"Is Islam the Enemy?" will be the topic of the Nov. 4 noon International Forum, sponsored by the School of Business. It will be held in Hoy B of the USD Coyote Student Center.

Panelists include Dr. Steven Bucklin (history), Abdelkabir Kahlaouy (Arabic), and Dr. Tim Schorn (political science). Moderator will be Dr. Benno Wymar (economics/emeritus).

Topics which will be taken up include the terrorist attacks in Indonesia (Bali), the Phillippines, Moscow and the Washington, DC area.

This monthly event is open to the public.
