South Dakota loses to Vikings 3-0 in volleyball South Dakota women's volleyball team (16-16, 6-9) dropped a 3-1 (30-27, 25-30, 18-30, 29-31) decision to #24 ranked Augustana (17-13, 8-7) on Nov. 22 at the Elmen Center in Sioux Falls.
After defeating two straight top 20 ranked opponents, the Coyotes started fast against Augustana but ran out of gas.
The Coyotes hit .333 in game one, converting 18 kills on 45 attacks and took a 30-27 win. After that Augustana held serve. The Vikings hit .256 in game two and won 30-25. The Vikings had 19 kills in 38 for a .395 hitting percentage and a 30-18 win in game three.
Game four was a tightly contested contest with Augustana taking the game, 31-29. USD had 17 kills on 55 attacks for a .273 hitting percentage and Augustana had 22 kills on 66 attacks for a .227 hitting percentage in game four.
USD was led by Amber Abrams, a senior from Rapid City, who recorded 18 kills on 52 attacks for a .269 hitting percentage. She also had eight digs and two block assists. Lindsey Soukup (Lincoln, NE) had 15 kills on 46 attacks for a .217 hitting percentage. She also had 14 kills, two block assists and a service ace.
Senior setter Lyndsey Finney finished with 48 set assists, 15 defensive digs, three service aces and two kills.
Overall, South Dakota had 58 kills on 196 attacks for a .189 hitting percentage. The Coyotes recorded 80 digs and five team blocks. Lacey Ross led South Dakota with 22 digs.
For Augustana, Sara Larson had 22 kills and Jackie Hingst had 18 kills and a game-high 23 digs. Kelli Vreeman had 51 set assists and 16 digs.
Augustana recorded 76 kills on 191 attacks for a .277 hitting percentage. They had 104 digs and seven team blocks.
