South Dakota women defeat San Diego The University of South Dakota women's basketball team defeated San Diego, 67-59 in exhibition basketball on Saturday.
Heather Nelson, a senior forward from Yankton, scored 20 points to lead the Coyotes to the win.
She hit seven of 19 field goals including three three-point goals. She had seven rebounds in 34 minutes of action. Erin Gourne added 10 points and Stacy Schooley scored nine for the Coyotes.
USD had a 37-24 halftime lead, hitting 13 of 31 field goals for 42 percent. In the second half, USD made 11 of 29 field goals for 38 percent.
USD hit six of 23 three-pointers and were 13-21 from the free throw line.
Junior forward Mandy Koupal had seven points and four rebounds plus three blocks and two steals. She was hampered with four fouls. Renae Luecke and Amanda Iverson both had six points. Dawn Sudbeck led USD with five assists.
Erin Malich scored 16 points and had 11 rebounds to lead San Diego.
