VHS volleyball claims District 8A win Nov. 4 by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanager volleyball team outscored Alcester/Hudson (15-17) last Monday night, Nov. 4, when they won a three game first round District 8A match, played in the VHS gym, 25-12, 25-21, 25-20 to eliminate A/H.
Individual stats for the Tanager team were: Ashley Bjorkman � eight kills and 19 digs; Colette Joy and Jackie Thomas each recorded five aces; Ellen Odson led the offense with 16 set assists and also made 17 digs and three blocks.
Other defensive leaders were Dru VanKley � three blocks, and Whitney Tolsma � 13 digs and three blocks.
The Alcester/Hudson leaders were: Ashley Pearson � nine set assists; Katrina Winquist had six aces and 23 digs; Angie Fickbohm claimed seven kills and 23 digs; Megan Kleinhaus had eight assists.
The Tanager varsity record stands at 13-12 as they faced EP/J on Thursday Nov. 7 for the championship, played at the Vermillion gym. See next weeks' Plain Talk for the results.
