Calving clinics set for Avon, Canton Calving clinics have been set for Tuesday, Jan. 7 for Avon and Canton.
Featured speakers will include Dr. Cody Wright, SDSU Extension Beef Specialist; cow nutrition prior to calving, substituting corn for forage in the ration, alternative feeds (wheat mids, soy hulls, distillers grain) mineral requirements.
Craig Anthony, Extension Educator Yankton County; calving time management, calving checks, assisting the cow, abnormal birth presentations.
Jeff Lounsbery, Extension Educator Lincoln County; facilities management, environmental considerations, supplies and equipment.
Dr. Jeff Scieszinski, DVM, Tyndall Vet Clinic, Dr. Jerald Stokka, Tech Service Vet, Psizer, Dr. Ken Shaffer, DVM, Lennox; biosecurity considerations, calf scours ��prevention and control, enterotoximia, navel infection, quick pneumonia and other herd health considerations.
The Avon meeting starts at 1:30 p.m. at the Avon Livestock Auction. The Canton meeting will be held at the Lincoln County Extension Office and begins at 6:30 p.m.
Both meetings will last approximately 2 1/2 hours.
