Christmas Cantata is Dec. 15 A Christmas Cantata by the choir of the United Church of Christ, Congregational will be sung on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 10:30 a.m. The Nativity, a cantata by the English composer Eric Thiman includes several well-known hymns and chorales such as From Heaven High to Earth I Come, On Jordan's Banks the Baptist Shouts, and Brightest and Best of the Stars in the Morning.
Soloists will be guest tenor Michael Jaworski; sopranos Gretchen Burbach, Liz Wood, Jeanne Dahlin; altos Mary Vickrey and Marjorie Coker; men's ensemble Anthony Burbach, Steve Miller, Kurt Hackemer, George Schlenker, Chuck Thatcher and Chris Hoover.
The Celestial Bell Choir will ring Coventry Carol, a traditional English carol, directed by Ryan Berg.
A Trio for Two Violins and Cello by Archangelo Corelli will be played by John Thomson, Owen DeJong, violins; and Richard Rognstad, cello.
The congregation will sing familiar carols along with readings of the biblical story of Christ's birth.
This is the 59th Christmas carol service of the United Church of Christ, Congregational, continuing a tradition begun in 1944.
