Clay County 4-H'ers recognized at annual event Nov. 17 4-H friends, members and leaders were recognized at the annual Clay County 4-H Recognition Event on Sunday, Nov. 17 at the 4-H Center in Vermillion.
The Clay County 4-H Leaders Association recognized four individuals and one organization for their support and cooperation to the Clay County 4-H Program. Receiving Friends of 4-H Awards were Liz DeVelder, Mike and Kathy Lynch and the Coyote Rodeo Club. Marion Kryger was recognized for Meritorious Service.
4-H Alumni Awards were awarded to Julie Fallan, Reid Jensen, Mark Bottolfson and Bob Logue.
Leader Awards were presented to first year leaders: Roxane Blumer, Gwen and Joe Ensminger and Sheri Ouellette.
Clover Awards were presented to Scott Jepsen � five years, Joan Miller � 10 years, and Chuck and Nadeen Peterson � 15 years.
Three members were recognized as graduating members. They were Rachel L. Nelson, Daniel Nelson and Casey Gale.
4-H Record Book awards, sponsored by Community First State Bank, were awarded to the following first place recipients; Kelsey Fallan, Daniel Sokolowski, Emily Holoch, Garrett Jepsen, Laura Aga and Evan Peterson. Members receiving second place were Megan Bottolfson, Chad Peterson, Brittany Bye, Andy Peterson, Amanda Aga and Kyle Hubert. Third place recipients were Hope Lindstrom, Gerrit Heine, Brittany Rederick, Tony Hubert, Colette Joy and Mike Lindstrom.
The 2003 4-H Conference Scholarship, sponsored by the Dillon Estate Fund and the Clay County 4-H Leaders Association, was presented to Kyle Hubert.
4-H Sweepstakes Awards, sponsored by the Clay County Youth Trust Fund and the Clay County 4-H Leaders Association, were awarded to the following members: Personal Development � Beginner Shannon Jepsen, Junior Tony Hubert amd Senior Kyle Hubert; Home Economics � Beginner Kelsey Fallan, Junior Emily Holoch and Senior Theresa Ring; and Agricultural � Beginner Chad Peterson, Junior Garrett Jepsen and Senior Nick Peterson.
Shooting Sports Sweepstakes, sponsored by the Clay County Sportsmen Club were presented to Chelsey Cahoon, Beginner Archery, Jeremy Anderson, Junior Archery, and Kyle Hubert, Senior Archery; Tavish Bartlett, Beginner BB Gun, Paul Hoffman, Junior BB Gun, and Kyle Hubert, Senior BB Gun.
Horse Sweepstakes, sponsored by the Vermillion Saddle Club, were presented to Beginner Taylor Geu, Junior Adrianne Logue and Senior Megan Griffith.
The Outstanding Horse Award, in memory of Joe Millette and sponsored by Margaret Williams and Frank Schieber, was awarded to Megan Griffith.
Farm Bureau Awards for participation in leadership, citizenship and safety were presented to Junior Stacey Joy and Senior Michelle Rydell.
Kyle Hubert earned an overall award in Agriculture. A Personal Development award was presented to Ellen Kennedy. Amanda Aga received the Achievement Award and the Key Award was presented to Evan Peterson.
4-H members recognized for top sales in the annual Fruit Sale promotion were Adrianne Logue, Rachel L. Nelson, Kaia Nelson, Kelly O'Dea and Harrison Hawley.
Best Secretary's Record Book Award was awarded to Michelle Rydell, a member of Country Gals & Guys, and Best Reporter's Scrapbook Award was presented to Korry Speakman of the Jolly Juniorettes 4-H Club. The Clay County 4-H Leaders Association sponsors both awards.

Youth-In-Action awards for individual participation in county contests were awarded to Ashley Ouellette for Beginner Fashion Revue and to Theresa Dendinger and Amanda Aga for Senior Fashion Revue. Junior Demonstration recipient was Ariel Begley and Senior Demonstration recipient was Amanda Aga. Ashley Ouellette received the Beginner Special Foods award, Ariel Begley and Junior Special Foods award and Theresa Ring was presented the Senior Special Foods award. Zach Holoch received the Senior Public Speaking award. These awards were sponsored by Clay County CFEL, Farm Bureau Insurance, JoAnn's Fabrics and Garfield Township.
Five individuals and six judging teams placed in the top 10 at the 2002 State Fair Judging Contests. Team awards were sponsored by Bob's Amoco, Colleen Speakman, Clay County 4-H Leaders Association, Young Producers 4-H Club, Cargill, Inc., and CorTrust Bank.

Five youth were recognized for completing the Cloverbud Program: Noah Dreesen, Ellen Hanson, Morgan Hower, Ashley Sorensen and Rory Tucker.
Kelly O'Dea received a cash award for her first place 4-H Promotion display entry.
State Fair award winners were Alisha O'Connor, Katie Miskimins, Ellen Kennedy, Andy Jensen, Emma Jensen, Brittany Rederick and Chris Rederick.
The Helping Hands Award, sponsored by the Marshall Lindquist and Cliff Miller Memorial Fund, was awarded to Eric Lindstrom and Angela Rydell.
The Clay County Youth Trust Fund 2002 4-H Scholarship awards were awarded to Rachel L. Nelson and Daniel Nelson.
The Outstanding 4-H Club Awards, sponsored by Community First Bank, were presented to first place winner, Meckling Livestock � Sheri Ouellette, Tim Heine and Scott Jepsen, leaders. Second place was awarded to Coyote Cubs � Joe and Jeanette Hubert, leaders. The Community Service Club award and traveling plaque, sponsored by Vermillion Civic Council and Community First State Bank, was presented to the Jolly Juniorettes 4-H Club led by Cyndi Dendinger and Colleen Speakman. Second place was presented to the Coyote Cubs 4-H Club, led by Joe and Jeanette Hubert.
