Clubs Kiwanis Club discusses surveys
The Vermillion Kiwanis Club met at noon on Nov. 13, 27 and Dec. 11, at Little Italy's in Vermillion. The meetings were called to order by President Janet Mount. The group discussed the needs survey that was sent to area schools, churches, social services and USD student services. Several of the surveys were returned and reviewed. The group also discussed recruiting ideas. The group provided volunteers for Monday, Dec. 9, for the public broadcasting telethon. Two members from the Yankton Kiwanis club visited our group at the Nov. 27 meeting.
Treasurer Maureen Goddard gave the treasurer's report. At the Jan. 8, 2003 meeting members will receive pizza coupons to give to prospective members as an incentive to attend our January 15 meeting. We will not have a meeting on Dec. 25. Happy holidays to everyone.

Legion Auxiliary plans Cheer Boxes
American Legion Auxiliary Gingrich-Dixon Post #13 of Wakonda met on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 7:30 p.m. at the multi-purpose room of the Heritage Manor with 10 members present for roll call.
President Betty Schmidt called the meeting to order. The secretary and treasurer's reports were read and approved. The treasurer reported that $320 was made at Santa Shack and that we have 53 paid members for 2003.
Correspondence was read from our district president, Sybil Hotchkiss and thank yous were read from the Black Hills VA and the Sioux Falls VA.
There was no old business to discuss.
New business: The December meeting will be the packing of Cheer Boxes. Members are asked to cover shoe boxes with Christmas paper. Group 1 will furnish two dozen cookies or bars. Group 2 will pay $5 to purchase the fruit.
Initiation was held for new member, Jill Haver. The meeting adjourned and the ladies celebrated the auxiliary's birthday by playing bingo. Lunch was served by Donna Henriksen.
The packing of Cheer Boxes will be on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2 p.m. at the Heritage Manor.
Rotarians hold raffle drawings
The Vermillion Rotary Club began its last luncheon meeting of 2002 Tuesday by welcoming James Patrick and Bernie Stansbury as new members of the organization.
The main order of business of the day was drawings of winners from all who purchased Rotary raffle tickets, a major fund-raising project of the club.
Winners in the drawing are:
$1,500 � James Grossman; $500 � Claire Hussey; and $250 � Jack Herrboldt.
Winners of the $50 cash prizes were Steph Klopper, Ann Friedenbach, Elaine Schorn, Judy Nygren, and Beth Hopkins.
Names drawn for $25 prizes are Sandy Brown, Chris Chaney, Clay-Union Electric, the Houska kids, Mark Hasz, Anders Fremstad (a three time winner!), Dwight Berglin, Carol Sanderson, Kent Scribner, Brian Busek and Deb Burnight.
Following the drawings, Rotarian Mercy Hobbs led fellow club members in a game of Christmas trivia.
Members of the senior class at Vermillion High School who were guests at Tuesday's luncheon were Bobi Hines, Nicki Mollet, Joe Girard and Jeff Goeden.
The Vermillion Rotary Club will not meet on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31.
