Local hero recognized for volunteer service Allen Johnson is a hometown hero in the eyes of the local Modern Woodmen of America camp.
Members of the Vermillion camp recognized Johnson's volunteer service and accomplishments Nov. 20 with a dinner at the Silver Dollar Restaurant. In thanks for his efforts, the camp presented a certificate and its appreciation to Johnson. Johnson's volunteer efforts include: co-chairman of University Emeritus Club, co-chairman of Clay County Democrats, member of the board of directors of Vermillion Lions Club, and vice-president of the Senior Citizens board of directors. Johnson is on the University Planning Committee, and volunteers for many causes, especially at the Senior Citizen Center.
"Modern Woodmen deeply believes in volunteer community service and developed a Community Service Recognition program as a way to acknowledge and thank strong volunteers all across the United States," said Cathy Lynch, Modern Woodmen district representative.
Modern Woodmen of America, a fraternal life insurance organization, provides life insurance, annuities, and fraternal programs for more than three-quarters of a million Americans. With its Home Office in Rock Island, IL, Modern Woodmen has a camp in Vermillion that provides a number of volunteer service and social activities for local members.
