Missed shots plague Tanager boys' varsity by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers were topped by the Alcester-Hudson Cubs 75-61 in boys' basketball Dec. 16 at Alcester as the Tanagers shot just 35 percent from the field.

"The kids played hard," said Vermillion varsity coach Jason Huska. "They never gave up. We just didn't shoot the ball well. You have to give credit to Alcester-Hudson. They shot well and played hard."

Alcester-Hudson jumped in front 19-10 after the first quarter, and held an edge of 18-15 in the second quarter. The Vermillion varsity had an advantage of 14-12 in the third period to cut the deficit to 49-39 going into the final period.

The Vermillion varsity saw its record fall to 1-2, while Alcester-Hudson upped its mark to 1-0.

Vermillion hit 2 of 20 three-point attempts and connected on 23 of 28 free throw tries. The Tanagers hit 18 of 52 from the field, while Alcester-Hudson was 29 of 54 from the field. Alcester-Hudson sank 3 of 12 three-point tries and sank 14 of 22 free throw tries.
