South Dakota Hall of Fame accepting 2003 nominations Do you know someone who is deserving to be inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame?
The Hall of Fame, located in Chamberlain, recognizes those selected individuals who have made your community and state a better place to live or to former South Dakotans who have distinguished themselves in their careers.
The board has approved a new nomination deadline date of Feb. 1 for prospective inductees. The previous deadline was April 1. The purpose of the deadline change is to provide staff of the South Dakota Hall of Fame additional time to prepare for the honor ceremonies, which is typically held in September. Each year up to 15 nominees are inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame.
Since 1978 the South Dakota Hall of Fame has inducted more than 500 South Dakotans who have distinguished themselves in the following categories: Agriculture; Professional Cowboy; Arts and Humanities; Athletics; Business and Trades; Communications; Education and Cultural Affairs; Indian Heritage; Military Affairs; Professional; Religion; Transportation; Unsung Heroes and Good Hearts; Historical; and Governmental Affairs.
The South Dakota Hall of Fame recently held its 25th Annual Honor Ceremonies in Mitchell with more than 650 people attending the Honors Luncheon and Banquet.
