USD men's swimming wins UNO Invitational The South Dakota men's swimming and diving team captured a title at the Mutual of Omaha Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 7 in Omaha, NE. The South Dakota women finished fifth.
South Dakota scored 1,330 points followed by Truman State with 1,164.50. Gustavus Adolphus finished third with 760.
Truman State won the women's meet with 1,423 points while UNO had 827. Wisconsin-LaCrosse placed third with 665 points and St. Cloud State had 583.
The Coyotes had two first place finishes on Saturday, including the 400 freestyle (3:09.77). The team included John Murman, Lincoln, NE, Dirk Craft, Palmer, AK, Matt Lind, Kearney, NE, and Alex Smith, Houston, TX.
Dustin Tomhave, Vermillion, captured first place in the 1000
freestyle (10:16.76) with Clint Eckhardt, Hastings, NE, second (10:25.30). Alex Girard, Cedar Falls, IA, finished fourth in 10:28.13.
Garth Meacham, Des Moines, IA, finished second in the 200 butterfly (1:56.33) with Alex Smith, third (1:57.89). Adrian Smith, Plano, TX, finished second in the 500 freestyle (4:50.27). The 200 medley relay finished second (1:35.92). The team included Tim Byers, Billings, MT, Craft, Murman, and Tyler Scheer, Lincoln, NE. Alex Smith was fourth in the 200 IM (2:01.71) and fifth in the 100 freestyle (47.93). Byers finished fifth in the 100 backstroke (54.19). Murman finished second in the 100 freestyle (47.28).
On the women's side, Audrey Donley, Arvada, CO, was second in the 1000 freestyle (10:55.46). The 200 medley relay finished third (1:53.16). That squad included Kopecky, Ashley Schaper, Molly Connolly, Elkhorn, NE, and Karen Burke Carson City, NV.
The 400 freestyle team was fifth (3:39.65). That team included Donley, Connolly, Kopecky, and Burke. Connolly was fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.61).

The USD swimming and diving team will return to action on Jan. 11 when they host South Dakota State in a dual meet at 2 p.m. at the DakotaDome.
