VHS Students of Month named Dani Weydert and Brad Simons have been named as the November Students of the Month at Vermillion High School. These two seniors were nominated by faculty members for their leadership in the classroom and their participation in several activities. They will each receive a $100 scholarship from First National Bank-Vermillion toward their future educational plans.
Weydert "is a leader in my class and is always trying to help others," according to her faculty endorsement. Her 4.0 GPA is enhanced by various activities including soccer, softball, volleyball, Teen Republicans, golf and National Honor Society. She was a Girls State delegate and has participated in the St. Agnes Youth Group and the Teen Angels at Sioux Valley Hospital.
Weydert's parents are Glenda Walker and Nick Weydert. Her college plans are to attend Creighton University in Omaha, NE, and to participate in the ROTC Nursing Program.
Simons has a stellar academic record with a 3.8 GPA. His mixture of activities include wrestling, Natural Helpers, National Honor Society, Sophomore Servers and football. He was a Boys State candidate, the Most Improved Wrestler for 2001-02, and most recently an All-Conference football selection.
Simons plans to attend the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. His parents are Kal and Betsy Simons.
