American Legion presenting Blue Star banners

American Legion presenting Blue Star banners The Vermillion American Legion, Wallace Post No. 1, will be presenting Blue Star Banners to all qualified families who have a member of their immediate family currently serving in the United States federal military forces.

Blue Star banners were first used in World War I. In World War II, they hung in thousands of American homes in honor of a member of that family who was serving his country during a time of war.

For a family to receive a banner free of charge, the service person must be on active duty in the United States military.

The first banner is a gift from the American Legion members. If a family desires an additional banner for the same service person, they can purchase one at cost.

Families desiring a Blue Star Banner may write F. M. Marshall, P.O. Box 121, Vermillion, SD 57069. Please include the name of the service person and the branch of the service in which they serve.

Families requesting a banner should also provide their names, addresses and phone numbers, as well as their relationships to the service persons on active duty.
