Community Club reviews support The Wakonda Community Club members' meeting on Jan. 8 reviewed a number of things the club supported in 2002.
Nearly $3,000 was reported as being spent on school and community activities. In a breakdown as to where those combinations were made, one finds between two and three dozen places where the money has been invested.
The dollar amounts vary widely but range anywhere from Appreciation Day to Y.B.A. support with many in between.
Athletic schedules, brochures, fireworks, scholarships, and cafe support would be some of the larger expenditures.
Supt. Larry Johnke spent some time explaining a number of items that may be dealt with by this year's Legislature. Since a number of them affect the smaller schools he urged all citizens to make themselves informed and to let our legislators know of our interests and concerns.
The club also learned that with our "early bird" sign up we are off to a good start on the 2003 membership drive. Four members volunteered to make contacts for the drive. Local citizens wishing to be a part of this "support group," The Wakonda Community Club, are urged to pay their dues $5 per individual at the First Premier Bank.
Twenty-seven members were present for the regular monthly meeting.
