December students of month Allison Stewart and Thomas Dendinger were named as the Vermillion High School Students of the Month for December. These senior students were nominated by faculty members for their leadership in the classroom and in their extra-curricular activities. First National Bank-Vermillion will provide a $100 scholarship to the college of their choice.
Stewart is most noted for her efforts on the golf course as she has garnered some of the highest honors in South Dakota golf. These include being the 2001 SDGA Junior Golfer of the Year, the 2002 State "A" Individual Champion, and the captain of the 2002 State "A" Golf Team Champions.
However, she is multi-talented as reflected in her 3.95 GPA at VHS as well as many other honors and activities. She has been in National Honor Society, band, honors program, volleyball, basketball, and softball. Her parents are Chuck and Noreen Stewart.
Dendinger sports a 3.8 GPA and is the student body president of VHS. He also serves on the state board as its treasurer and he is the National Honor Society president.
Other activities include cross country, track, Science Bowl, Quiz Bowl, and debate. Dendinger's honors also include being a Boys State delegate, an AP Scholar, and an Eagle Scout.
His immediate post high school plan is to attend the U.S. Naval Academy majoring in aerospace engineering. He hopes eventually to fly for the Navy. Bill and Cyndi Dendinger are his parents.
