Lang receives Cornell cross country award Zeb Lang, a senior at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, was named the recipient of the John Reif Award at the conclusion of the Big Red's cross country season.
The Reif Award, named in memory of John Reif, a Cornell cross country team member in the 1980s, is presented annually to the runner who combines excellence and dedication in cross country and academics, maintains a competitive spirit and provides support and encouragement for teammates. Award recipients are chosen by a vote of team members.
Lang, a 1999 VHS graduate and the son of Dr. Marlene Jacobson, Vermillion, and Steve Lang, Alpine, TX, also earned his first varsity letter this season and helped Cornell win the IC4A men's team championship in their final meet of the season. This marked the first time Cornell had captured the IC4A title since 1921.
Lang set a personal best of 27:23 over five miles in the Heptagonal Championship, which includes the eight Ivy League universities and the U.S. Naval Academy. He will graduate in May with a bachelor of science degree in economics.
