Local law officers distribute food boxes Funds raised at an annual dinner held last November by South Dakota law enforcement helped make the holidays a bit brighter for the needy in the Vermillion area.
The 21st annual South Dakota Highway Patrol & Law Enforcement Appreciation Dinner and Children's Fund Raiser was held in Sioux Falls on Nov. 16.
This dinner honors South Dakota law enforcement officers and raises money for charitable organizations. As always, the dinner drew a crowd of law enforcement personnel, business sponsors and VIPs.
This year area law enforcement was presented a check for $1,600. This was used to purchase food for the less fortunate in Clay and Yankton counties.
The food boxes were distributed to these families on Dec. 16.
The value of each basket was approximately $30. The $1,600 of food was enough to feed about 53 families in the Yankton and Vermillion area.
Local law enforcement thank Hy-Vee food stores in Yankton and Vermillion for their unselfish efforts to help organize and box the food to be delivered.
The area law enforcement agencies involved with the food distribution are: South Dakota Highway Patrol, Clay County Sheriff's Office, Yankton County Sheriff's Office, Vermillion Police Department, and Yankton Police Department.
Law enforcement personnel thank everyone involved in this process and wish everyone the best this holiday season.
