Six VHS wrestlers earn place medals at invite by Jim Prosser Sixteen schools were represented at the Floyd Farrand Wrestling Invitational in Sioux Falls during the Christmas holidays, Dec. 27-28 at the Lincoln High School.

Parkston won the team title for the third time in a row, while Vermillion was 14th with six placers earning medals.

Kyle Hubert, at 103 lbs. placed third and Brad Simons was fifth at 215 lbs. Craig Powell (112), Andy Hayner (135), Adam Hasse (171) and Taylor Birgen (189), each placed eighth in their respective weight classes.

"I was extremely pleased with our performance throughout the tournament," said coach Casey O'Connor. "The Sioux Falls Lincoln Tournament is a great midseason judging tool to evaluate where the individual wrestlers are at in their ability."

O'Connor said some of the best teams in the state compete in this tournament.

"The first round was tough on our squad, but the wrestlers refocused and came back strong in the wrestleback rounds," he said. "Overall we placed six of our seven wrestlers in the tournament. It has been a long time since Vermillion has had that many placers in this tournament.

"Coach Delvaux and myself are very round of the athletes and their performance," O'Connor continued. "Kyle Hubert was the most outstanding wrestler for Vermillion. He dropped to 103 for this tournament and wrestled with very few mistakes. He had a flawless last two rounds."
