South Dakota Public Television to air All-State Chorus and Orchestra concert South Dakota Public Television will broadcast the 49th annual South Dakota All-State Chorus and Orchestra Grand Finale Concert on Thursday, Jan. 23, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 26, at 1 p.m.
The concert, performed at the Sioux Falls Arena, features the best high school musicians from around the state.
The concert features selections from both the choir and the orchestra, as well as two combined numbers. The combined pieces feature Ralph Baughan Williams Antiphon from Five Mystical Songs and The Battle Hymn of the Republic.
The All-State Chorus, under the directions of Dr. Paul Torkenson from Wartburg College of Waverly, IA, will perform six numbers, including F.J. Haydn's Gloria from Heilegmesse, Sanctus by Craig Courtney and Agnus Dei by Peter Williams.
James A. Biddlecome of the North Jersey Philharmonic in Teaneck, NJ conducts this year's All-State Orchestra. In addition to the combined numbers, the orchestra will perform the Alleluias for Orchestra by Vermillion native Stephen Yarbrough, and Intermezzo Atto Terzo from Manon Lescant and Overture to Romeo and Juliet by Peter Ilich Tschaikovsky.
