Strong shooting leads to Tanager JV victory by Jim Prosser The Vermillion junior varsity Tanagers defeated the Pine Ridge Thorpes 46-19 in girls' basketball Dec. 28 at Vermillion. The Tanagers shot an impressive 55 percent from the field for the game.

The Tanagers took the lead 10-3 after the first quarter, and margins of 16-11 and 6-2 in the second and third quarters boosted the lead to 32-16 going into the final period.

The Vermillion JV now has a record of 2-1, while Pine Ridge fell to 1-4.

The Vermillion JV hit 0 of 4 three-point tries and hit 4 of 14 free throw tries. The Tanagers connected on 21 of 38 from the field, while Pine Ridge was 7 of 21 from the field. Pine Ridge connected on 1 of 8 three-point attempts and sank 2 of 6 from the line.

The Vermillion JV held a 35-16 edge on the boards.
