Vermillion freshmen squeak by Huskies 32-30 by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers squeaked past the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies 32-30 in boys' basketball Jan. 21 at Elk Point in a matchup that was close throughout.

"We played well at times, but got as little careless with the ball," said Vermillion freshman coach Mark Iverson. "That allowed them to gain on us late in the game."

The Tanagers jumped ahead 5-2 after the opening period, led 16-11 after the second quarter, and then led 24-20 after the third period.

The Vermillion freshmen now have a record of 3-2, while EPJ fell to 3-4.

The Vermillion freshmen hit 1 of 3 three-pointers and hit 3 of 4 from the line. The Tanagers connected on 14 of 30 from the field, while EPJ was 10 of 35 from the field. EPJ connected on 0 of 3 three-point attempts and hit 5 of 6 free throw attempts.
