VHS gymnasts lose to Madison in dual by Jim Prosser The Tanager gymnasts had a team point total 119.3 in the dual meet held at the Madison High School gym on Tuesday, Jan. 14, facing the eight-year State A champion Madison Lady Bulldogs. The home team scored 132.15 to claim another victory.
Vermillion participants, their scores and place in each event are:
Theresa Ring � Bars, 5.45.
Sarah Gregg � Bars, 6.4; beam 7.55.
Amy Mart ��Beam 5.35; vault 5.8.
Megan Epping � Vault 6.3
Brittney Gilkyson � Bars 7.4; vault 7.4
Tristen Upward � Beam 7.6; floor 5.05.
Katie Connors � Bars 8.05 (third); beam 6.55; floor 6.80; vault 8.5 (first); all-around 29.90.
Ariel Hofman � Bars 8.50 (first); beam 7.2; floor 7.65 (fifth); vault 8.1 (fourth); all-around 31.45 (fifth).
Sarah Christopherson � Bars 7.75 (fifth); beam 6.2; floor 7.05; vault 8.15 (third); all-around 29.15.
Totals � Bars 31.7; beam 28.9; floor 26.55; vault 32.15.
"Once again we had two good events and two where we struggle," said coach Mark Upward. "We did very well on bars and vault, but were off on floor and struggled on the beam."
The highest beam score came from eighth-grader Tristen Upward with her 7.6.
"We need to regroup, enjoy the trip to Jackson and come back ready to work hard for region and state," Upward added.
In the JV section, Kaili Johnson placed third on floor and in all-around. Megan Epping had the best Tanager JV score on beam (6.0) and the duo of Calle Sorensen and Christina Wellstry were fourth and fifth on bars, while Stacey Joy placed fifth on floor. More than 15 young Vermillion gymnasts had a chance to compete in the JV division.
