April's Ag Advice by April Borders The South Dakota State University Department of Economics will host a commodity prices outlook conference Feb. 18. The conference will be held at the Brookings Inn Convention Center in Brookings.
Experts from Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota will lead discussions on agricultural and livestock outlooks for 2003. Michael Swanson, agricultural economist for Wells Fargo in Minneapolis, will discuss the agricultural outlook for the year.
Other presenters are as follows:
Roger Krueger, director of grain marketing from the South Dakota Wheat Growers Association, will speak on corn and soybean outlooks.
Dennis Todey, state climatologist at SDSU, will cover the weather outlook.
Dr. Darrell Mark, agricultural economist for the University of Nebraska, will cover livestock outlooks.
Al May, Extension grain marketing specialist, SDSU, will speak on wheat outlooks.
A program for women that teaches grain marketing will be held in Sioux Falls on Thursday, Feb. 20. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sheraton Convention Center. Program presenters are Ed Usser and Robert Craven of the Center for Farm Financial Management at the University of Minnesota who will discuss common mistakes of grain marketing, pre-harvest plans, grain pricing tools, and crop insurance. Participants will be able to write personalized marketing plans. Women will practice their marketing plans using a simulation game with daily prices. They will also fine-tune their plans and play the game with a different marketing year.
The Women's Marketing Program 2003 is sponsored by the South Dakota Soybean Council, and the Center for Farm Financial Management Agency.
