Gregoire wins Girls and Women in Sports Day honor by Ashley Anderson National Girls and Women in Sports Day, celebrated Feb. 6, recognizes girls and women's participation in sports and athletics. On Feb. 4, Andrea Gregoire was presented as Wakonda's choice for National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
Wakonda's coaches chose her for her sports skills, participation, and academic excellence.
Researchers say that girls who participate in sports are less likely to get involved with drugs and less likely to get pregnant in high school than those who do not play sports. Girls' participating in sports are more likely to experience academic success and graduate from high school than those who do not play sports. Half or all girls and women who play sports have higher than average levels of self-esteem and lower levels of depression.
