Smith named Sioux Valley Vermillion CEO Ed Weiland, president of Sioux Valley Regional Health Services, has named Steve Smith as chief executive officer at Sioux Valley Vermillion Medical Center in Vermillion. Smith replaces John Paulson who recently accepted a position at Sioux Valley Hospitals & Health System in Sioux Falls. Smith will begin his duties on March 3.
Smith most recently served as chief executive officer for the Carson-Tahoe Hospital in Carson City, NV. From 1984 to 1991 he was the administrator at Mason General Hospital in Shelton, WA and prior to that was administrator at Coulee Community Hospital in Grand Coulee, WA.
He earned his MBA degree in 1985 and a public accountant certification (CPA) in 1978.
"We are very pleased to have Steve Smith join our regional team," said Weiland. "Steve brings with him over 20 years of healthcare management experience in a variety of settings. I have great confidence in Steve's ability to lead Sioux Valley Vermillion Medical Center in its continued dedication to the work of healing."
Smith served as a board member on the American Hospital Association Board for Small and Rural Hospitals for three years. He also served as president of the Nevada Rural Hospital Association and as treasurer for the Nevada Hospital Association.
In addition, Smith was appointed by the governor of Washington to the Washington State Healthcare Technical Advisory Committee, and was a board member of the Washington State Hospital Association for four years. Smith has also served as a board member at the Northern Nevada Community College.
Smith was born and raised in North Dakota. He and his wife, Connie will be relocating to Vermillion.
