Truran Piano Competition to be held Saturday, March 1 The Ninth Annual Genevieve Truran Piano Competition for grades 8-12 will be held Saturday, March 1, at The University of South Dakota.
The auditions will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude by 1 p.m. and will be held in both the Choir Room and in Colton Recital Hall of the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts.
The public is invited to attend and there is no admission charge.
More than 30 young pianists from Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota and North Dakota will compete for first and second prize cash awards in each age group. Each contestant will perform two or three contrasting works by memory. The competition is supported by the Genevieve and John Truran Fund, for which it is named, and is organized each year by the Keyboard Area of the USD Department of Music.
Genevieve Truran, a native of Pierre, joined the music faculty at The University of South Dakota in 1920 where she taught piano on a full-time basis for 47 years.
