Award-winning play to open soon at USD The University of South Dakota Department of Theatre will present Toni Press-Coffman's, Touch, March 19-23 at 8 p.m. in the Arena Theatre.
Touch is the winner of the 16th annual Festival of Emerging American Theatre and was the recipient of the 1998 South Carolina Playwrights Festival/Trespass Theatre Award.
Touch focuses on Kyle, an introverted astronomer, who met his wonderfully zany wife, Zoe, when she accidentally wandered into his high school physics class. It's a meeting he now believes was a miracle, since they were so different. Their happy six-year marriage ended horrifically when Zoe was abducted and murdered.
In a journey through grief and into some unexpected safe harbors, Kyle is left to cope with the intense love he feels for Zoe who played a vital role in his self-discovery. Along the way, he finds there are still things that can make life joyful and worth living.
The talented cast of Touch is led by Tyler Swank, Rapid City, as Kyle, Keith Goeden, Yankton, as his friend Bennie, and Laura Nesson, Huron, as his sister in law. Kari Hammer, Milbank, and Kyle Wasserman, Chamberlain, assume roles of a prostitute and prisoner, respectively.
The production team includes graduate students Brian Begley, Vermillion, as the director and Rj Fitzsimmons as the lighting designer. Undergraduate students Brian Adams, Alissa Ledeboer and Joseph Tennis serve as the scenic, costume, and sound designers, respectively.
