Exchange vows Helen Payne and Yassir Vizcaya were married Dec. 31, 2002 at the United Methodist Church, Wakonda, with the Rev. Hazel Behrens officiating.
Parents of the couple are Dianne Axlund and the late Irwin Axlund, Wakonda, Jim and Jackie Payne, Yankton, and Artemio and Victoria Vizcaya, San Jose, CA.
Matron of honor was Olga Terekhina, Colorado Springs, CO. Bridesmaid was Sang Hui Lee, Colorado Springs. The bride's personal attendant was Melissa Layher, Sioux Falls. Flower pinner was Judy Swensen, Wakonda, and Erin Spurrell, Wakonda, attended the guest book.
Artemio Vizcaya, San Jose, CA, was best man. Groomsman was Yoon Shik Lee, Colorado Springs. Ushers were Charles Layher, Milbank, and Jim Piper, Yankton.
Wedding music was provided by Margaret Peterson, organist, and Helen Payne, soloist.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Kelly Inn, Yankton, with John and Lois Varvel, Yankton, as host and hostess.
The bride attends college at Simpson College, Indianola, IA, majoring in biochemistry. She was recently activated in the Army Reserve and is stationed at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, TX. The groom serves in the U.S. Army as a medical lab technician and is stationed at Ft. Leavenworth in Leavenworth, KS, and is pursuing a nursing degree.
The couple resides in El Paso, TX, and Leavenworth, KS.
