Med school receives grant

Med school receives grant Sen. Tom Daschle has announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded $143,620 to The University of South Dakota School of Medicine to help find ways to improve emergency medical care for children in South Dakota.

The school received the grant as part of the Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) program at HHS.

The federal EMSC grant program is a national initiative designed to reduce youth disability and death due to severe illness and injury. The program enables states to address pediatric deficiencies they have identified within their emergency care system.

The grant will be used to help integrate the emergency care of children into state public health programs and into preparedness for mass casualty disasters.
