Red Cross brochure gives disaster safety tips The Sioux Empire American Red Cross recommends that Clay County residents obtain a copy of "Together We Prepare 5 Actions for Emergency Preparedness," which is available at the Vermillion Plain Talk office at no cost.
Sioux Empire American Red Cross CEO Jeff Stingley said the American Red Cross and the U.S. Homeland Security Department initiated the program for citizens to be better prepared for natural or man-caused disasters.
"In the Midwest, it is more likely for us to experience a natural disaster such as a tornado or hail storm," said Stingley, "however, we live in an unstable world and individuals/families can take precautions."
Preparing for a man-caused disaster is very similar to preparing for a natural disaster, but the Together We Prepare brochure will advise of differences.
