South Dakota film office unveils filmsd.com Following a world-wide business trend, Hollywood is looking to the Internet for information on where to film movies, television shows and commercials. To fill that need, the South Dakota Department of Tourism launched www.filmsd.com. Filmsd.com is geared towards directors, producers, locations scouts and anyone else in the entertainment business who may be interested in filming in South Dakota.
"Filmsd.com enables us to fulfill information requests with incredible speed," said Department of Tourism Acting Secretary Patricia Van Gerpen. "Practically any information needed to film in South Dakota can be found on this site location photos, a searchable crew database, maps and weather information. It is a world-class site that allows us to be even more accessible world-wide than we were before."
Location pictures of South Dakota's landscapes are the site's centerpiece. "With our diverse sites, it is important to have a variety of photos available to production companies. We will be adding to this location library continually, in order to have thousands of visuals available," Van Gerpen said.
Filmsd.com has already received praise from the entertainment industry, according to Chris Hull, film office manager.
The South Dakota Film Office markets South Dakota as a filming destination for feature motion pictures, television programs, commercials and documentary film makers. It also acts as a liaison between production companies and state and federal governmental agencies.
